Overview

Are you having problems with “high maturity” suppliers?  After touting their “CMMI® processes” in proposals, has their performance fallen short of the expectations they established?

Are you unable to hold suppliers to mature process performance standards because you have difficulty translating vague “we’re Level x” proposal language into recognizable action?

When used knowledgeably and appropriately, the CMMI® for Development (CMMI®-DEV) Model can be a powerful tool for systems acquirers.  Unfortunately, the SEI has provided little guidance—and no training—to address acquirers’ specific needs.  Lacking appropriate knowledge and guidance, acquirers have been at a disadvantage when faced with “disappointing” contractor performance.

The three-day CMMI®-DEV for Systems Acquirers (CDSA) Workshop provides the knowledge required to use the development model effectively when working with contractors.  This unique workshop was designed and developed by Dr. Chuck Myers,  and he will be the instructor.  Chuck has been closely involved with capability maturity models (CMM®s) and CMMI® from their earliest beginnings, and he is a recognized authority on the models and their use.

CDSA is far more than a “training course.”   It is a workshop in the truest sense.  Approximately half of the class time is devoted to practical exercises that reinforce and consolidate the knowledge provided.   As you complete these exercises, you will develop useful checklists and other tools that you can use immediately for monitoring and managing existing contractors.  Other work products developed during the exercises will be useful in the future for requirements development, solicitation, source selection, and contracting.

Who Should Attend

Anyone who is using (or intends to use) the CMMI®-DEV model for acquisition purposes. Included would be project and support staff for:

• Government procurement organizations

•  Monitoring contractors, who guide government staff

• Prime contractors, who need to select subcontractors and monitor their process performance

• Commercial organizations, who acquire system components from suppliers

• Contractor organizations, who need to prepare and follow through on process-related proposal material

No prior knowledge of CMMI^®-DEV model or of other process standards or approaches is needed.
