TeamCatapult speaks at the U.S. Census Bureau on Agile Software
Development
Clarksburg, Maryland March 14, 2006 Agile
Development is a term that has sparked many debates
in the software engineering community. There are some who
believe it creates total chaos and others who think there
is no other way to develop good software. In the middle of
those discussions is a second debate can you use agile
methods and still be compliant with the CMMI?
TeamCatapult CEO Marsha Acker and Phase2 Technology Managing
Partner Jeff Walpole co-presented a seminar at the U.S. Census
Bureau entitled Where Agile Meets the CMMI.
The two speakers shared with Census Bureau employees their
real world lessons-learned in applying agile methods and working
on CMM and CMMI compliant projects. The discussion included
guidelines on how to tailor your development process based
on your organizations culture, and how to balance the methods
used between structured and agile approaches so they will
meet the intent of the CMMI framework. "Organizations
really need to be less worried about which model they are
using and instead use the debate over different methods to
spark innovation within their own projects" said Marsha
Acker. "Honestly answering a few questions up front like;
what type of culture does your organization have, are the
right people involved in the development, what project management
constraints exist on the project, and do we have support from
our customer, can help project teams choose the mix of methods
that will ensure success in their unique culture."
